Reception

Year 1

Our overarching topic for the next two terms is called 'What would it be like to live in another country?'. In our geography lessons we will focus on the country of Jamaica. We will think about and look at where Jamaica is on the world map, Jamaican culture and famous individuals from Jamaica. Our history lessons for the next 2 terms will look at Mary Seacole, a historical figure of huge significance and importance. We will look at her work in Crimea and the challenges that she faced as a nurse. In our Science lessons, we are continuing to look at animals including humans. In term 6 our focus will be primarily humans, looking at the human body and thinking about a healthy lifestyle. 

We will look at several different texts in our English lessons related to this topic. These will include 'Windrush Child' by John Agard and 'The Extraordinary Life of Mary Seacole' by Naida Redgrave.
